EBS vs Clover
We sell Clover. Our merchants run on Clover every day, and the hardware and software deserve their reputation. So this page is not Clover against something else — it is the same Clover, bought two ways: through a typical reseller’s contract, or through EBS at published pricing.

01Where Clover Is Genuinely Good
Credit Where It Is Due
The device is not the argument on this page — it is the deal around the device. First, what Clover itself gets right:
Strength 1
Hardware That Earns the Counter
Flex, Mini, and Station are well built and fast, and staff learn them in an afternoon. It is the lineup we recommend most — because it is genuinely good.
Strength 2
Software With Real Depth
Inventory, employee management, and an app market for nearly every trade. Clover is a real operating system for a storefront, not just a card reader with a screen.
Strength 3
It Is Why We Sell It
Our store carries the Clover lineup and our merchants process on it daily. If Clover fits your business, keep Clover. Change the contract, not the counter.
02The Pricing, Side by Side
Same Cards. Two Ways to Price Them.
Because reseller terms vary from contract to contract, the reseller column shows ranges and reported figures instead of one rate — which is itself the finding. The EBS column is a single published set of numbers, identical for every merchant.
| Clover via typical reseller | EBS | |
|---|---|---|
| Software | $14.95–$89.95+/mo per location — varies by reseller | $35/mo merchant services, flat |
| In-person rate | 2.3%–2.6% + 10¢ base, before ISO processing fee | Interchange + 0.50%, published |
| Online / keyed rate | 3.5% + 10¢ | Interchange + 0.50% |
| Hardware — Flex | $599–$749 upfront, or ≈ $40/mo × 36 mo through resellers | Flex 4 $799.95 outright in our store — or placed for $35 one-time |
| Contract | Typically 36 months, with early-termination fees | No 36-month hardware lease — terms in writing up front |
| PCI non-compliance fees | $19.99–$99/mo reported | Not in our published pricing |
Clover rates vary significantly depending on which bank, ISO, or reseller sold you Clover — the reseller column reflects typical published reseller terms, checked October 2026, and reseller processing fees can push effective rates above 3.5%. The EBS column is our published pricing, the same for every merchant.
03The Structural Difference
Not the Product. The Structure.
Same terminal, same software, same cards. What changes is the contract wrapped around them — and contracts are where the cost hides.
Difference 1
Same Device, Different Math
A reseller’s Clover rate is a base rate plus whatever processing fee the contract carries — often tiered, rarely published. Through EBS, the same Clover runs at interchange + 0.50%, and every line of the statement can be audited against our Pricing page.
Difference 2
What Happens to Debit
Regulated debit costs 0.05% + about $0.22 at cost. Whether that saving reaches you depends entirely on the contract: on interchange-plus it passes through; inside a marked-up tiered contract, it is absorbed before it ever reaches your statement.
Difference 3
Who You Call
When the contract is the product, every question points back to the contract. With EBS you call (202) 505-4332, Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 9 PM ET, and reach the team that set up your Clover — not a reseller’s call center.
04A Worked Example
Run the Arithmetic Yourself
An auto repair shop doing $60,000 a month at a $320 average ticket — 188 transactions. The EBS column is a number. The reseller column honestly cannot be — it depends on the processing fee buried in each contract, which is exactly the problem this page exists to name:
Illustrative Example — Not a Client Result
| Monthly card volume | $60,000 |
| Transactions (avg ticket $320) | 188 |
| EBS estimate — interchange blend + 0.50% + $35/mo | $1,482/mo |
| EBS effective rate | 2.47% |
| Typical-reseller Clover | Set by your contract’s processing fee |
| The check | Your fees ÷ volume vs 2.47% |
Illustrative EBS estimate from published interchange blends — not a client result. The check is simple: divide your statement’s total fees by your volume. If your effective rate beats 2.47%, keep your deal and we will tell you so. If it does not, you now know what the contract costs. The review is free, and the math comes back in writing.
